How’s Your Self-Talk?

I talk to myself all day long and I am sure you do too.  Sometimes I say encouraging words to myself and occasionally I say things that “beat me up” a bit.  When I catch myself doing the latter, I quickly correct my self-talk with positive words.

How about you, have you checked your self-talk lately?  What do you say when you talk to yourself?  When you make a mistake, do you criticize yourself harshly?  Do you put yourself down or sometimes call yourself derogatory names?

When you talk to yourself in a negative way, you damage your self-esteem and lower your self-confidence.  One of the dangers of continuing to talk to yourself in a negative manner is that eventually you begin to believe it.

How To Build Self Confidence: Some Ideas

(Part 1 of 3)

No matter who you are, you have probably struggled at some point in your life with feelings of inadequacy or low self esteem.  We struggle with issues of self esteem for all kinds of reasons. Perhaps, during childhood, we were given the idea by authority figures or peers that we were not good enough. Sometimes, low self esteem can be caused by a traumatic event later in life, such as the loss of a job or a partner. Sometimes, it is our station in life, economically or financially, that makes us feel unworthy. No matter what the reason, there are times in our lives where we could all use some tips on how to build self confidence.

Do you feel that you have no control over your own emotions? Because bad feelings often come as the result of events beyond our control, we often get the idea that good feelings can only come this way, too. This is not the case. There are many steps you can take to improve your own inner environment. Some ideas for building your self confidence are coming up in these next few blog posts.

It can be described as a basic belief that you hold.  For example, do you believe that you are capable of completing those tasks necessary to reach your goals?  Your answer to that question is important because your self esteem is enhanced by your achievements, feelings about your own strengths, weaknesses and potential.
