Try These Activities For Expanding Your Horizons

Have you ever felt like you have been missing something that could make your way of life more fulfilling? Perhaps you’re longing to expand your perspectives and reach for something beyond the extent of what you know today.

These activities will make a significant difference in helping you find that sense of newness and fulfillment you may be seeking:

1. Read more. Reading is a great way to expand your horizons.  It will give you an appreciation of concepts and ideas which you perhaps have never really given much thought to before.

You’ll quickly find that you’re becoming more imaginative… and even more accepting of the points of view of others around you.

Reading history books will give you a true sense of appreciation of different cultures.  You’ll learn why some cultures have behaviors that are so different from your own.

2. Engage others. Having meaningful conversations with others outside of your  friends or your everyday co-workers is a great way to open up your mind’s eye. Try visiting a new hang out or accept invitations from random acquaintances and see what new possibilities open up.

Not much into politics? Give it a shot by engaging politics-driven individuals in conversation. You may not ever become a politician, but you can at least understand their point of view!

Thinking about giving back?   That’s another way of engaging others.  Why not spend some time with charity workers to understand the impact of their work? That may be just the push you need to make a difference in the lives of others from different walks of life.

3. Create. As a child, was there ever anything you wanted to be able to create? Did you want to create some written expression, music, a new gadget, or even a system of some sort? Now that you have grown up…and possibly in a better position to create, why not go for it?

Try to do something totally unrelated to your current stage or status in life. Since I’m the creative type, I pursue this one with total vigor and excitement!

Write a book sharing your innermost fears and insecurities; you may find that it gives you the freedom you’ve been looking for…for many years.

4. Appreciate. There are many things others accomplish that might not be within your way of life. Try to take some time to appreciate their worth.

While the impact may initially be beyond your insight or understanding -  spending time looking into it for its worth may help you gain an appreciation you never had before.

There are endless lessons just waiting to have a profound impact on you, if only you’ll let them. And the more you expose your mind to…the broader your horizons will become.

Knowledge is power, so avoid limiting your knowledge and open your mind to new possibilities.

The reality is that you’re really never too old to learn and grow!
